I suggest to use K-Lite Codec Pack.
Listen to zoebug..The vlc player is the way to go. It will play many more types than mpcstar and is 1/5......
here for the xvid codec http://www.xvid.org/. get ffdshow and ac3 filter and youll be able to play anything......
VLC player is great. It plays pretty much any type of file or codec.
