STEPS TO CLEAR WRITING

1. Prewrite

Select a subject, collect details about that subject, and develop your writing plan.

2. Establishing a writing plan

Answer the following in an outline form:

2.1 What are you writing (essay, test, questionnaire, dialogue)?

2.2 Why are you writing (to persuade, describe, explain, and narrate)?

2.3 For whom are you writing (peers, instructors, colleagues)?

2.4 How are you writing (alone, with a classmate, in a group, on computer)?

2.5 Where are you writing (on the bus, in the library, at the computer lab)?

2.6 When will you be writing (consider the time frame for this writing project)?

3. Write first draft

Organize your plan ideas into phrases, sentences, and paragraphs as appropriate

to the task, content, and audience. Obtain feedback from your intended audience

as to the accuracy, relevance, and understand ability of your materials.

4. Revise

Make changes to improve your writing so it coveys your main idea and purpose.

5. Edit

Examine critically for errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar, or style.
