Simple Massage for Relaxation
1. Massage for the back with lotion:
a. Apply warmed lotion to the back, slowly, from the base of the neck to
the tailbone using long smooth strokes with your palm.
b. Press with the heel of your palm starting in the sacrum area (below the
waist by the tailbone) along the side of the spine (not on it) from the
sacrum to the top of the shoulder.
c. Repeat slowly several times to both sides of the spine.
2. Massage without lotion for headaches and neckaches:
a. Make slow circular movements with your fingers and thumb.
b. Press up under the occipital ridge (where the neck connects to the
skull) starting behind the ears and rub with the fingers and thumb,
simultaneously, in toward the spine
c. If the person is sitting, hold her forehead in the palm of one of your
hands for support.
d. Rub the entire scalp with the pads of the fingers using fast or slow
motions according to the person's preference.
