I've recently just upgraded part of my com,
CPU, MB, RAM and PSU the rest were carried
forward from my previous rig.
To my surprise, my old com used 175 watts on idle
while the new one just used 128 watts 
The biggest significant change was the 80plus certified PSU.
Just hope that the manufacturers lower the price while we do our bit
for the environment
