Guest Sat Feb 16, 08 02:16 PM

Yup, it gathers info on my installed software without asking. THAT IS SPYWARE!

apphit Mon Feb 18, 08 05:18 AM

There is no spyware on apphit.com. Could you check it again? thanks

If there is any problem, please feel free to contact us.

Hello,

It is with great pleasure that I will help all of you to remove this SPYWARE that is run without users' knowledge. I believe this software is an invasion of our privacy, and the sheer fact that they (Apphit) is talking in circles shows that they have nothing but bad intentions. I myself will be making sure to submit this help to all known tech sites, so that we may once and for all eliminate this disgusting attempt at shoving ads and unecessary software down our throats.

1. Open Bicomet

2. Click "Options" on the menu bar.

3. Click on "Advanced".

4. At the end of this list, it says "Check Software Update"; click on this, then from the dropdown list, choose "Never".

That's all it takes. This will NOT interfere with Bitcomet checking for updates, as that is a different option in the same menu. I hope this helps all of you who are fed up with the royal run-around.

Yes, I too would like to know how to remove apphit from my computer. Thanks.

Do you mean update checker?

Karlitos1985 (Shadow) Tue Feb 19, 08 01:33 AM

The update checker is a small little trial that is automaticly installed along with bitcomet, it gives you a preview of how apphit works and shows, if the user would like to have the full program all he needs is to click on the update checker window, if not, just close the window and it will never bother you again.

Id say that it is a very good program but it still needs little tweaks, let me be more specific:

If my emule version is 8.01.2556.14 but it only displays 8, apphit will show a new update of the 8.01.2553.14, which is the same version but with more detailed release number, beside that, it is a very handy program.

A simple "dont show me more updates for this version" button should give a better user interface, keep up the good work.

Thanks for the explanation. Your suggestion will be taken into consideration. Thanks! :)

The program is useful but the update checker only ran two x times. I can't get it run again. I like it because it does clutter with driver updates but only the programs. Is there a troubleshooting chart for when it don't work right?

The file is downloaded into the directory you choose and just click on the file also you can delete it from that directory.

apphit Sun Mar 23, 08 11:20 PM

Dear, it works only when you run it. Have you tried to run it?

Le Sat Mar 22, 08 12:27 PM

apphit - your responses seem evasive. I monitored active processes while running update checker from the BitComet command bar. I found not process creation. This implies that update checker is not installed but linked into BitComet. I would like a way to disable the automatic running of update checker when BitComet starts or the name of the update checker exe file so I can delete it.

apphit Sun Mar 23, 08 11:16 PM

Dear, if you mean the updates sent by BitComet, you can delete it by finding the option from Options - Advanced - Check Software Update. :)

Guest Sun Apr 6, 08 11:19 PM

Dear apphit,

Is it so hard to tell us how to uninstall this update checker. You keep saying don't run it...well we don't want the update checker to run, but it keeps asking. How do we get rid of this thing once and for all. Please give us an honest reply.

apphit Mon Apr 7, 08 12:11 AM

Dear friend,

Just find it and delete it directly from your folder, nothing special.

dmc123 Wed Apr 9, 08 08:38 PM

Dear apphit,

You are most evasive in answering how to uninstall update checker. Statements such as "just find it and delete it directly from your folder, nothing special" is at best unspecific in detail. We do not want update checker checking for updates. We did not want it installed on our machines in the first place. You are giving apphit.com a bad name. Your actions border on criminal behavior.

For the umpteenth time today.... How DO you uninstall the update checker ?

apphit Wed Apr 9, 08 11:21 PM

Dear,

We answered your question honestly. There is no need to be evasive.

First, please make sure that you mean the update checker you installed from apphit.com?

If you are sure about it and following is the instruction.

It is a small program and it only read your registry. So just find it in your folder and delete it. That's all. You don't need to uninstall it with complex process. Please just have a try!

If there is any further questions, please contact us! Thanks!

dm123 Thu Apr 10, 08 07:50 AM

I want to be clear on another point. You asked to be sure that "it is the update checker that you installed from apphit.com".

I DID NOT KNOWINGLY INSTALL THIS SOFTWARE and until it appeared on my machine, I had never heard of APPHIT.COM. Now I have this process that scans all my files and suggests updates I can download from APPHIT.COM. I would rather die before downloading anytnhing from apphit.com. Your moral and ethics over the installation and uninstallation of the update checker are lacking. After this experience, I would never trust anything from APPHIT.COM.

Folks: Software that is installed without your consent, and proceeeds to scan all the software installed on your machine and report it to a 3rd party constitutes a piece of SPYWARE. These folks are up to no good.
