Groundbreaking £7 million water treatment technology, never before used in Europe, is being introduced in Halifax.
According to “Halifax Evening Courier”, Yorkshire Water is the first company in Europe to use the technology, which is capable of treating 24 Olympic sized swimming pools full of water.
The Magnetic Ion Exchange system is being launched at the Albert Water Treatment Works, at Pellon, Halifax, this week.
The new system, the second largest in the world, was developed by Australian-based Orica Water Care and works similar to a magnet.
As raw water enters the treatment works, it is directed through a large tank which contains a liquid magnetic resin.
All of the dissolved organic materials which create the colour in the water are attracted to the resin, cleaning the water of impurities before it moves to the next stage of the treatment process.
