Well we have finally moved into our new home!

And it has given us two things, a lot of space and a lot of extra work.

We are not finished with all construction yet as we still have to redecorate/renovate the storage/workshop building. Also we did not start with finalizing the library. However all this has to be finished within about 9 months, as we are expecting a baby around that time and the baby-room that is now still our temporary library has to be finished by that time.

We have been successful with expanding our video collection during the last couple of months as there have been a lot of nice sales promotions in the area. Also it's amazing how much free content there is out there. Classic movies and television shows that I thought I would never acquire, have been neglected by their studios and have entered the public domain.

This has mainly been caused by several changes that have taken place during the last couple of months. First of all, we moved to a temporary house where we have access to the internet over a 56kbps line. This reduces the speed and times spend on the internet.

Hello again everyone!

It has been a while since my last post. (Actually, there were only 3 up until now)

We have been a little busy the last couple of months, and I hope you realize that unfortunately we have some other jobs next to our activities for the archives, as we sometimes need to pay some bills and the archives are not profitable yet. Also we are building a new home which means more storage space, and the addition of a separate media-room and a library gives us the opportunity to pursue our goals more professionally.

We will try to keep you up-to-date what is going on in the Van Rixtel Archives. We are acquiring a lot of materials and also cataloging and digitizing continuously, and hope to share some of the materials real soon. Also our side-project, The Classic Photo Archive is starting to take shape as the amount of photographs and postcards in our collection is slowly increasing. Next month (October) we will start......

Knowledge is power

Sir Francis Bacon once said: "Knowledge is power." This is true, but only if you know how to acquire it. Opponent of this statement will tell you that the opposite is often more true, that power is knowledge, in the sense that power decides which knowledge is produced in a given social setting and gets to count as knowledge in discourse and decision making. However, intelligence can be seen as the product of evaluated information or knowledge, valued for its currency and relevance rather than its detail or accuracy.

Digitizing or digitization is the process of converting information shown on "paper" maps into digital form for computer processing either by scanning or by manually capturing point and line features using specialized computer hardware. Simply put, it is the process of converting something into a form for use in a computer and in such a way make it accessable for a larger group of people.
