Yesterday, the currently best BitComet client was released - BitComet 1.03. This version respects all private tracker rules, and fixed major bugs regarding its announce-wire.

I've only experienced one bug - BitComet doesn't block bad peers, as I mentioned in the blog post below this one. However, if you find any bug - doesn't matter if it's a serious kind or not, report it to me (and of course on the official English boards www.tocomet.com ). That way you'll be 100% sure that the bugreport will reach the developers. Either through me or through the BitComet representatives on the BitComet forum.

Now, let's spread the word - BitComet is finally (so it seems) able to be unbanned on all trackers, since it won't conflict with anti-cheat scripts anymore!

I will do a more thorough analysis of the client later on to catch possible bugs.

Finally, the BETA of 1.03 is released!

It has a lot of wonderful GUI-fixes, and not to forget: The FIXED user-agent string I reported a while ago. Now BitComet reports as it should; BitComet/xx (Version number = xx). Now you don't need the UBCP anymore!

BitComet is indeed announcing using the proper user-agent string, however, the tracker still responds with: "Torrent not registred on this tracker". It is a mystery why it does this. I need to do some more analyzing before I can draw a conclusion.

The tracker I was using had problems. BitComet is announcing perfectly!
UBCP is not required anymore, but thanks go to Voodooman for the great patch and support!

I must say it's quite some time ago I posted something on this blog, but I'm still available if you have any questions regarding the BitComet Client. Always remember that.

Summer has finally gotten it's hands around my part of the world (Denmark), which is incredibly nice. Some don't like the summer; however, I'm one of those persons who absolutely love the Sun and warmth. And in the Winter-months I can almost get into a depression, when several months have gone past without just a little "kiss" from the Sun (also in the Winter months I wake up when it's dark and I get home when it's dark.). So I enjoy these days a lot. I hope you do too.

I found it as a very funny coincidence when BitComet V. 1.02 got released RIGHT......

Currently the download page on www.bitcomet.com is broken. It seems like somebody has messed with the download.htm files - maybe a hacker.

BitComet Announcement:

Yesterday the 2nd BitComet 1.02 BETA release got released - and it is more powerful than ever.  

If you've read the post below this one, you've read great news about my "inside work" and the number of bug fixes - bug fixes that might give BitComet an even better reputation among private trackers.

Yesterday it happened! The 2nd 1.02 beta release fixes two important bugs: The: "Tracker Reture Zero Response error bug" the "EVENT_COMPLETE bug"  that would make you report as a seed, even though you haven't downloaded all of the files.

Those two bugs have been fixed along with the wrong "User-agent string" in the final version.

 The developers are working hard on this new release!

Go get the new BETA release right now and make not just yourself happy, but also your tracker admin:......

A "little" update:

I'm sorry for the lack of updates the past months. I've been busy, but that haven't meant that I've put down my "inside work" on BitComet.

The past months have been very quiet on the BitComet area - I'm tempted to say: "all was quiet on the Eastern front". 

1.01 were released, and fixed a few non-serious bugs, but nothing very interesting. 

However, with a new BETA version released May 22nd, BitComet is back in business!

Just recently, I decided to deal with the problems directly and make one report covering all the bugs we've been experiencing here in the western community. I wanted to let the developers know once and for all. I went to the "highest place", the official Chinese boards, and reported all the bugs directly to the developers in a thread.

They received it - and they've confirmed that all the bugs......

BitComet V. 1.00 is released - the milestone - the version we all looked forward to.

The patch we've been waiting for!

Finally - a fix for the long requested problem with the incompatible trackers.

"V00d00m4n" is the name of the Russian person that has developed a patch, which will fix the wrong announce-wire.
As you've probably read in earlier blog-entries, BitComet is incompatible with many trackers - that is now history with voodooman's patch!

- When the developers won’t, then the users must. 

Basically, what this patch does is to overwrite the "official" BitComet.exe file with the modified BitComet.exe file. They are identical, with that little exception that the "hybrid-announce" (Which will switch between two different user-agents: 1st announce: Browser user-agent Mozilla 4.0/.... 2nd announce: BitTorrent 3.4.2.) has been disabled.

This makes that outcome, which BitComet will now report as it's supposed to - and......

BitComet 1.0 BETA is nothing but a clone, plus a few small adjustments, of BitComet 0.99.  

The releaselog is as following:

Inside BitComet - Issue 03.

February has gone past - the last winter month, and I must say it has been a very mild winter on my longitudes, which is a bit interesting since I'm living in the "far" North. But I'm all right with that - now the spring is getting closer, and of course - the summer!

BitComet and TvTorrents user zoebug98 reported that tvtorrents have just banned BitComet. Thank you very much for the report, zoebug. 

Even the latest version (0.99) of BitComet is banned from the tracker, and the staff has not given any arguments to why, they have banned BitComet (a long with a bunch of other clients too.)

That is not tolerable - they can ban clients, if they have good arguments to do so. However, there has not been any bugreports from the TvTorrent SysOps on the BitComet forums, so this is very untrustworthy.
We have to get an explanation for this ban.

Yes! Only 24 days after the release of BitComet V. 0.98, BitComet 0.99 is released!

This release is very important for the Western communities, as it fixes a highly discussed bug: Reporting hashes regardless of settings, as I also mentioned in Inside BitComet: Issue 02. 

Strangly enough, the changelog doesn't exactly mention this fix. It does mention two new options. Nevertheless, I have tested it myself - and yes, it is fixed! (I was the one that reported this, and I have confirmed the problem is solved.)

Yes, BitComet V. 0.98 got released - and which goodies do this version offer?

Well, when you have installed V.0.98 it doesn’t look different from V.0.97. HOWEVER, the core has two very important bug fixes, as I wrote in Inside BitComet Issue 1.

It's two problems regarding LT-seeding. The latter is a bug, which did so you uploaded HTTP tasks without your knowledge!

BitComet unbanned before the new year. Unfortunately, the trackeradmin ceased replying, so that was not possible.

AsianDVDClub only allows DVD5 and DVD9 DVDRs, which is perfect.

(For those, who're not familar with DVDRs: It's those huge files you can burn directly on a blank DVD or mount on the computer.)

It's a very huge private tracker indeed, with usually high speeds on every torrent.

But, But AsianDVDClub is one of those trackers, which still bans BitComet.

I've been in direct "negotiation" with the tracker staff since February 2007. This case is making very slow progress I might admit, but it is making progress afterall.

BitComet is a fair client which follows the BitTorrent specs. That is proven, and thus should be unbanned at once.

Keep an eye here for updates regarding this specific tracker.......
