For months now every time I double click on a file in "Files" view for a completed torrent, all it does is bring up a webpage explaining that the file extention is for the file I wanted to run.

Damnit, I'm not a fucking noob BitTorent. I know what a .mp3 file is, I know what a .avi, .mpg, all all those extentions are. Just LAUNCH the appopreate app for that file, and PLAY IT you stupid fucking program!

It used to launch it, now I have to manually go into windows explorer and find my torrent to run then. I can't find any setting that will change this behavor, and it's really fucking annoying.

Also, I thought I had downloaded v1.04 of BT, but it still shows 1.03 on the app it self, and in the help dialog. But the file I downloaded SAYS 1.04.

What's the deal with some torrents where they download at a decent speed, but when it gets under 2% left to complete it never seems to finish? At this point the download speed is still 20kb/s to 100kb/s and the ETA to finnish hovers around 30seconds to 10 seconds, but it NEVER finnishes. Plus when you look at each seperate file, most of the files operation method is only on "read" mode, but not "read & write." So what the FUCK is it downloading if it's not being written to the files that aren't complete yet? Does it have anything to do if I set one or two files in a torrent to a higher priority? I don't see how that would fuckup a torrent.

This sorta thing can really fuck up ones ratios if BitComet keeps downloading data when it's not saving it. When I have files hanging on the verge of completion, it's frustrating seeing 100kb/s downloads and seeing a 10 second ETA showing for the past few HOURS. What the fuck is wrong here?

I'm not really happy about the planned update to my Xbox 360.
Avatars? Seriously? Do we really need them? And do they have to
look similar to Nintendo's Mii's? Sure they are a little more
fleshed out than a Mii, but still the heads and faces look the same.
It's not like we are using nearly 10 yearold hardware, so the 360 can
afford to use more complex models for these avatars.

I also recently upgraded my PC to a quad core Intel, and since
then I hadn't been logging my account on to bit torrent, so while I
have been seeding a lot, my rank has dropped to over 900! Aw
fuck. Turns out I've been using the wrong login name (I had
been using fragalot72, DUH!)

Fortunately Comcast has jacked up my upload speeds, and I average
100kB/s on ups. But I find this really ironic when ISPs bitch
at their customers for using up so much bandwidth when using P2P
apps, or streaming video in one way or another, and threating to
charge us extra fees for over use of bandwidth. Yet they turn around
and keep increasing our bandwidth anyway... especially on uploads
this time around.

Comcast has been known for throttling P2P packets (packet shaping)
and the FCC has stepped in and told them to stop. I find this
highly odd. First of all the FCC has no jurisdiction when it
comes to copyright law, but then again they aren't really there to
support ways to break copyright laws. But it sounds like the
FCC is pro-network neutrality.

However, with the deep pockets of the RIAA and MPAA they would
have the FCC in thier pockets already. This is highly WEIRD,
and I'm surprised Comcast has obeyed them, considering cable
companies like Comcast aren't as bound to FCC regulations as phone
companies are. At least they used to be.

My Cable ISP just bumped my upload speed from 384kbps to 1.5mbits! Earlier last year I was using DSL which had faster upload speeds than Cable had. I had a cable modem since about 2001, but switched to DSL for a short while. However DSL was still horribly slow, and kept dissconnecting me where I had to powercycle the DSL modem just about EVERY DAY, if not several times in one day! But the fast upload speeds DSL had is what helped me get such a high ranking in seeding with BitCommet. But I've switched back to Cable for the past 6 months or so, and apparetnly today they bump my upload speeds to what I used to have for download speeds way back in 2001! Yay!

-- Update --

Apparently it's just "speedboost" that they applied to uploads, as well as downloads. So it's only a temporary thing that boosts my speeds. Over time the speeds seem to settle out to normal upload speeds as I usually get. But Comcast is experimenting with 16mB/down and 1.5mB/up speeds in some markets. They are trying to compete with Fios, and other highspeed fiber optic networks, and they are talking about upgrading to docsis 2.0 (or 3?) with speeds over 100mb/s which is faster than my local network is. So I may have to switch to gigabit ethernet in a few years.

Anyone know what the points system is for, and is it something I can use or spend on something? If it's just something to show how well I am as a seeder, then why the redunant Rankings, Titles, and Scores? Unless points are gained via something else?

Whoa it went to 38 after I posted this. Are points related to blogging?

Have you ever fired up BitComet, and after a short while, at the bottom right of the screen it says "Blocked" refering to your ports being closed to allow peers to connect to you? Yet if you look at your up/down speeds they appear perfectly normal and you're seeing peers comming and going just fine? Well fear not, your ports are indeed open.

If you're using Windows XP, the upnp.exe app is just hosed up. If you've been closing and starting BitCommet (or any other apps that use uPnP) they tend to screw up the app. Apparently BitComet relies on the responce from upnp.exe to see if the port is open, rather than checking it directly.

This is most noticeable when you reboot your PC, and you'll see a quick error message about upnp.exe won't close properly, or it's taking to long to close before your PC shuts down.

So it's nothing to worry about. As long as you didn't change your port number, and you're seeing normal transfer speeds and you're seeing connections come and go; you're fine.

Last night I was somewhere over 700 in rankings, and now I'm 12? WTF happend? Did all the top seeders just fall off the face of the planet?

<hours later>

Okay nevermind, the rankings are back to normal now, and I'm under 700 now. I was a little paranoied thinking that all the top seeders got aresseted or something. >Phew!<

down into 25meg volumed RAR files. I'm not against
compression, since that's always good to keep stuff as small as
possible; but breaking it into 200 25meg smaller files just adds
bloat to the overall download.

The practice of breaking up files like this was back over 10
year ago when there was no web, and floppy disks were the best way
to move data around, and back in the day when we had slow dialup
modems, and call up BBSes to get our stuff.

People would break up large downloads into 1.4meg chuncks so it
would fit on a series of floppy disks. As time went on and we all
had 100mb ZIP disks, then CDRs, and DVD-Rs, those file chunks got
bigger. The idea was if one part of the DL was corrupted, or
stopped, you didn't have to start the whole download all over again
from the start. You had to manually pick each of 100s of
files to download, to get the entire thing.

But this is totally unneccessary with bit torrent. It's a
non-linear way of downloading, so what you download first is what
you don't have and is easy to download now, not always the start of
the file.

BT takes care of the parts of the download, and automaticlaly
verifies parts of the download incase they are corrupted during
download (unless the original seed was already corupted)

So, Weclome to the 21st century morons! Keep the BT
downloads simple stupid!
