Upstream

Another year has passed and I'm still me
How far have I gone up the road?
The message is clear but I don't see
the person that I have to be

Have I been wise to spend my time
Have I lived my life in full
It's not all work that makes a man
but the actual things that he has done

So am I too slow to achieve my goals
  cause another year is here?
Or have I just been like a leaf on the river
going where the flow takes me to

Personally I don't think that going along the flow is a bad thing, in fact sometimes if you want to go to the opposite it's easier to go along the flow rather than fighting the flow. But yeah going through the flow is not always the right thing to do. We need to take the rough path to achieve what we desire..And then questioning what achievement did we achieve? Nothing so far, is that true? We don't always be able to see all the achievement we had. Living to this day is also one of our greatest achievement in life. Without being able to live today we don't even have the opportunity to evaluate about our achievement so far.. What am I talking about here? hehe guess I'm a little off...I am sorry if I'm not able to understand what you really mean..

No, I think you are right. Going with the flow isn't a bad thing, in fact, it's what most of us do. We go through life following through the "standards" and "ideas" that had been layed out by our predecessors. There's nothing wrong with that, but you have to realize too that if you want to do something out from the ordinary, or achieve something different, it might be necessary to go "upstream". Out of the many great people I know, I find one thing in common with them... they almost always challenge the common thinking of their time.

Now I'm not saying that I want to be great per se... but at least I can do something better with my life far from just being lukewarm.

Just some thoughts.

Thanks by the way for contributing to my page!
