Jon "Maddog" Hall spoke use on the free software

Trying to restore these rolls of critical and non-critical to Microsoft, free software, and other stories, into something understandable, today I take the opportunity provided by the visit of Jon "Maddog" Hall at the Campus Party to get a video interview with a small .

Jon Hall (not John Hall, as some call it) is the president of Linux International, a non-profit association, not a company, which is responsible for promoting free software. A voice very authoritative and respected.

We put it for two reasons.

The first to the world that you are interested in this technology you can see and hear arguments on the use of free software.

The second shall see to it that those arguments, questionable or not, are very different from the typical one can be found at any blog.

There Manicheism in the words of Jon. Perhaps this wrong in some things, or maybe not. But his argument in favor of free software is always respectful. He says Microsoft is this or that, or your users or those which are. He says "I believe in this, and these are my reasons."

I keep my mind on what you said you hope that you can create your own, and if you are interested we can talk about it and discuss their arguments.

 The questions that responded are:

Is there a business model for open-source software?
Like what?
Do you think that free software dominating the market?
Does Windows cease to spearhead sales in the market?
What recommends the government to improve public administration?
What is your vision?

And so to answer all of them.

A hug.

A ver... ;)

I knew of, but never met Mr. Hall during my DEC days in the 90's. I'd say he single-handedly influenced Linux & Open Source at DEC, spearheading Linux development on Alpha platforms.

Open Source is ingrained in everything we do today: http://www.fossology.org/about_us

Cheers!

I understand that for to write the software you should spend some money, but the price is too high in any case. May be if to put down prices, you could encrease sales and it will bring more profit to software companies than now. It is Ok to pay a high cost for a designer program, but Operational system should be for free. Many computers don't need sofisticated programs. They are used to write an email, to print a document and to store pictures. These things should be free. Everything else could have a price in dependence of how many people need it. The programms that are used only by few could be the most expencive.

In Ireland there are a lot of IT companies and people who work there, they are the best paid specialists in the country. I know a person, who worked in Dublin for a software company for near one year, but in reality she was doing nothing, only receiving money. Company needed her only to show that they are spending money for staff. It shows that some of software companies don't realy know what to do with the money.
