Thanks to GIMPS, between 1996 and 2005 were discovered nine new Mersenne prime numbers. Currently, the Electronic Frontier Foundation offers a prize of 100,000 dollars to find out who a prime number of more than ten million digits.
It is based on installing a program on our computer that is running when not working on it.
