Tweak That Box!

So how badly do u want a fast PC?

Ok dont lie everyone wants one

heres the best way to tweak your pc though this may be a more expensive way of gaining performance upping to the newest technology is the top way to upgrade

1. Get DDR2 (Dual-Channel) RAM - Screw that single channel ram imagine a 2 lane highway getting expanded to a 8 lane thats what its like going from single channel to DDR2.

2. Switch to SATA or SATAII - Putting your hard drives on a SATA or SATAII will very much speed up your data transfer rate to your hard drives (this requires SATA ports on your motherboard and a SATA hard disk drive) SATA operates at 1.5GB/s and SATAII operates at 3GB/s.

3. Trash that small hard drive. -  Take that 40, 80, 150gb hard disk and upgrade. If you have IDE/ATA hard drives you can go as high as 750GB if you already have or are upgrading to SATA or SATAII you can go as high as 1TB (1000GB). Currently 1000GB is the largest publicly available hard drive size (that im aware of).

4. Lose Those Multi Partition Hard Drives - More partitions equal more read times and longer loading sequences. Just use one single partition if you use dual boot then you can use dual partitoins (as its not optional LOL). if your 2nd partiton is for backup just get an external or 2nd internal hard drive.

5. Got an extra HD laying around? If you put it in your pc and format it in FAT32 you can move your Pagefile to the Fat32 drive (DO NOT USE IT FOR ANYTHING ELSE ONLY YOUR PAGEFILE) this will allow faster reading of your pagefile.

6. Enable ReadyBoost (Vista Only) - If you have a USB Thumb Drive (Flash Drive) Use it for readyboost. just plug in the drive right click it and choose properties. if its readyboost compatible click the readyboost tab. Choose how much space you wish to dedicate to readyboost (data cacheing). Remember this readyboost dedicated space can not be used for data saving. ReadyBoost is like simulated ram but not as effective as RAM so try upgrading your ram first.

7. Disable Services You Dont Need. - This is self explanatory however you must determine which ones you dont use. If in doubt set it to manual start.

8.  Use Tweak-XP or Tweak-VI These both can be found on Bit-Torrent and bring you ways to tweak your windows OS in ways that are hidden from the users.

9. Lose small cluster sizes - If your hard drive  (NTFS) is formatted with cluster sizes smaller than 4kb reformat it with 4kb or larger. You can still optimize it with larger cluster sizes depending how u use files. if you use mostly large files (large downloads, movies etc) Higher clusters (larger) is better. if you use mainly small files (documents, txt, etc) use smaller clusters (No Smaller Than 4kb). This may involve reformatting so be careful to backup anything u might really want or need.

So speed up that PC and enjoy optimal performance.
