Welcome to another edition of CyberPimp's Digital Rants and Raves

I know everybody that has to buy gas is wondering " What The Hell Is Going ON".  The cost of gas is so much higher now, than a couple of years ago....And the gas companies say its because of supply and demand, along with the rising cost of crude per barrel.

In general, I wouldn't have a problem with that, if that were truely the main reason for the increase.

But, my understanding of world economics, business to business transactions, and the all around corporate pillaging of the little mans wallet,  has seemed to go beyond the norm in this situation.

Under normal business operations, a company can pretty much determine its profit range ahead of time using cost analysis, forcasting, prior P/L statements, ect.

So, under those conditions, if the demand for gas is higher, but the supply is for whatever reason lower, then the profit margine will, in general, be somewhat stable.....which the price of the gas being supplied will be increase proportionally at the rate of deminished capacity. So in essence, there profit with be mostly projected and adjusted accordingly.

So, with that slight economics lesson in laymans terms, you should be able to conclude that the gas companies are basically making the same amount of profit during this supply/demand "crisis".

But, low and behold, the truth is that these have been "RECORD BREAKING YEARS" for the companies bottom lines.

There is no reason that those companies are having tens of billions of dollars in profit.... At the expense of the little man.  I'm all for a capitalist economy, but there needs to be a line drawn to kepp a form of economic rape from occuring daily.  In this day and age, when the companies say the problem is supply and demand, there is now way that there profits should more than double.  A standard economics class would tell you, that price adjusted to maintain a certain level of consistant profit is normal.  But to far exceed for normal profit base, to more than double your annualized profit, is a Danm Shame.

They have also been called before congress to address these issues and nothing has been done by our government.  The main reason for that being the said same congressmen have a vested interest in the health of the gas companies, mainly stock interest.  The more money the companies make the more dividends the shareholders can enjoy.  As increase in sales drive the price of their stock up, the shareholders get a double payback, they now have stock that is worth more, increasing there overall networth.

Then there is the whole, "Gas Taxes", that we pay.  The government gets a large chunk of the cost of gas at the pump in these same taxes.  Thus they have no interest or incentive to do anything about the cost per gallon.  The U.S. gorenment also imports gas to fill its stretegic reserves.  So that later, if gas is in a shortage, they have the fuel to run the country.

Why not release some of the reserves into the economy to help offset the cost at the pump, or just subsidize the cost.

Or how about, a special tax refund for taxes paid on gas during periods of higher rates.

None of these suggestions would hinder the governments ability to operate, nor would it drastically alter the fuel reserves they are trying to build up.  Not to mention the "crude reserves" sitting under Alaska, that they still aren't willing to tap, in fear of upsetting some Arctic Ice lovers.

If that is what is keeping them from doing the right thing, the the Arctic Ice lovers need to start buying me gas.  If they can cause the gas prices to remain where they are, or even hinder us from tapping a natural resource, then they should reimburse  us for there ideals that get in the way of the population.  This country shouldn't sit back and take it for the sake of the few.  The Whole is greater than its parts.  And when a country is the whole, a few citizens shouldn't dictate policy on personal fealings, to the majority.

AS YOU CAN SEE, THIS WHOLE SUBJECT REALLY PISSES ME OFF TO NO END........

I live in the Netherlands a country of 16 million people small when compared to the USA with 290 million people i estimate. We are paying :

1,63 Euro for 1 litre unleaded fuel 95 = 2,50 dollar (1 litre !)

1 Gallon cost average in the USA 4,039 Dollar am i correct ?

That is 1 Gallon = 3,78 litre = 1,06 Dollar = 0,69 Euro

We are driving cars with average 1.4, 1.6 or 2 litre ENGINES, not that big ENGINES as in the USA of 4 litres or higher.

SO WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU COMPLAINING !!!!!

CyberPimp Fri Jun 13, 08 07:52 PM

Well, since you seem to think I have no reason to complain....just out of curiosity, what do you pay in our equivelant federal and state income-tax. And how is that a percentage of your total yearly income. I pay 32% tax federal and 8% state tax. Not to mention the regular sales tax of 8% on anything you purchase, and thats ontop of the other taxes. I was used to paying$2.50/gal because that was the price ratio for the supple and demand of that product.

Now that the oil companies are making almost twice the norm profit at the same time they say they are having a hard time supplying the gas, but at the same time they are supplying it without a problem. But charging more to do it.

At $1 us = 1.53euro

1euro= $1.53US

1gal(3.38liters) = 6.16euro

1gal(3.78liters) = $4.19us and thats for unleaded 87

you pay 2.00 euro more/gal = $3.06us/gal more

which means you pay $7.25 us/gal

So yah, i'll complain if a damn well choose to. It's my money...hard earned money, so if i feel like i'm being fucked out of it...i'm going to say something about it.
