A Recessionary Angel
Marilyn Mock's spontaneous gesture of kindness helped keep a woman in her home.
When she attended a foreclosure auction last October, Marilyn Mock of Rockwall, Texas wasn't planning to play fairy godmother to a complete stranger.
But that's just what happened after Mock struck up a conversation with Tracy Orr, a woman who sat crying on a nearby seat.
Orr confessed that her current residence was the next property up for bid. After a job loss led to money problems and she
fell behind on her mortgage, the bank foreclosed.
Moved by the woman's plight, Mock had the inspiration to purchase the four-bedroom property for $30,000-and to allow her
new friend to continue living there while she pays off her debt.
"It's amazing," Orr told CNN, describing how this chance occurrence changed her life. Not only can she stay in her home,
but the experience has returned her faith and hope "to keep going and hold my head up-things happen for a reason."
Late last year, Mock set up the Foreclosure Angel Foundation to help others in a similar situation to Orr. Visitors to the
website can make donations or submit their own stories for consideration.
