I. Once you enter custom style, you can customize several aspects of your page via the tabs titled Head, Navigation, Page, Module, Counter, & a red tab at the far right corner, CSS Master. Be sure that you are on the Custom Style tab ( the wrench like icon on the left hand side of the window).
| Head |
Customizes the top portion of your blog. (Title, URL, Tabs) |
| Navigation |
Customizes the headings of the sections on your blog. |
| Page |
Select the background of your blog, text color, etc. |
| Module |
Customizes the borders and backgrounds of your mods. |
| Counter |
The number of views and visits appears using these cute cards under your blog picture! |
II. If you do not want to spend time making your own schemes, you can go to the tab above the wrench, the eisel looking tab, My Styles, and select a style created by another user. However, I strongly suggest experimenting with your own colors and background images at least once. You may find you can create something more appealing to you then what you find published, the sky is the limit!
III.When you start selecting different colors, the actual page you are editing will update accordingly. Once you are satisfied click Save. You will then be redirected to your newly updated blog. If you find that you are unsure or unhappy about something, simply reclick Custom Styles in the top right hand corner and experiment with it!
Step 3. Time for a post!
After you are done creating your custom page style, you are ready to blog! Posts can range from a personal journal, to seeding a torrent, to a review of a book, CD, movie, event, pretty much anything you have an opinion about! You can post about yourself and your hobbies, morals, personality, etc. For example if you are intrigued by nature, you might want to post a blog about your passion for conservation or global warming, and if you are a strong political type, you could blog about the canidates you favor. You can also post things such as videos you like from the internet, or personal home videos of your own. Anything you want to share with the world is postable! Once you have posted a blog, people will be able to read, comment, and vote for your post. If you recieve enough votes, you are put on the Top Voted list on the Home page! This is important because it lets you know what people are interested in knowing about. Just go to blog.bitcomet.com and check out whats recommended, the top voted, and recently updated blogs!
***REMEMBER***
The more you comment other people's posts, the more you are likely to get feedback on your posts!
How to post:
I.There are a number of ways to start a new post. If you are on the blog.bitcomet.com homepage, you can click below the my blog link on the new post link. This will send you directly to the post mod. If you are at your blog home (blog.bitcomet.com/(Yourusernamehere)), look on your page for the module titled Shortcuts, and then click on new post. Anytime you see a link that says new post, it will direct you to starting a new post on your blog.
II.Once you have clicked on New Post, you are ready to start blogging! Choose a title of relevance, and to the right, input tags in the seperate module intended for saving and tagging.
III.The toolbars on the post module are very similar to that of a typical word processing program. You can customize your text, formatting, layout, paragraphs, etc. If you do not change the text, it will show up the way you customized to in your custom style module.
*It is a good idea to include links, pictures, and videos in your posts. *
A.To insert a link, click on the link text icon
after highlighting the text you want to place a hyperlink within. Enter the URL and then click update. Though your link will not work while composing your post, once you publish it will.
B.To insert a picture into your post click on the insert picture icon
. You can upload a picture by clicking the browse button and selecting a photo of your own from your computer. You can also use one of the icons you uploaded at the beggining of your page design by clicking on the My Photos tab. Finally, you can post a hosted picture you found on the internet by entering the URL of the image. Once you have selected the photo you wish to insert, click insert and voila, you're picture should show up on the page where you left your cursor prior to clicking the insert pic icon.
C.To insert a video into your post, click the Insert/Edit Embedded Media icon
. In the Type menu select Windows Media. In the File box, past the link to the video you wish to post. On the Advanced tab you can control quality and other features of your video. If you wish to use a home video, I suggest hosting your video on a site like google, youtube, yahoo video, myspace, or photobucket in order to get a URL for your video for easy posting anytime. It is also nice in that your video is available for users everywhere on the web.
IV.Now you are ready to wrap your post up and publish it! Once you are satisfied with the input of your blog, click the preview button at the bottom of the page. This will redirect you to a preview of your post. If you are satisfied with the look of it, close the preview window and click publish in your new post window. You will then be redirected to your new post on your blog's My Post window.
V.Once people have a chance to see what you have to see, it's time for feedback! You can respond to comments directly on your page, however your response will only be visible on your blog, it does not send to the user you are replying to. If you wish for the other person to receive your reply immediately, it is best to visit them and sign their guestbook with a response.
You're All Done!
Now, sit back, relax, and let the views roll in my friends!!! If you have any questions, or would like me to elaborate on something more in depth, comment and I shall respond as quickly as I am able. I hope this is of some help to those newcommers who are having some troubleshooting!
Have a great day!
