Can I just burn with Nero or do the torrents have to be converted to a different format?

easiest way to burn is with convertXtoDvd, you should find a cracked copy on pirate bay or any other torrent site.
The reason your downloads are still uploading after 100% is the reason this torrent stuff works.
everyone who downloads leaves the file open so others can share its normal to leave it open untill the the upload matches your download or if your a Good person leave it open fore longer
