BitComet Options
Preface:If you want to reset some number checkbox to the orignal default, you only need to delete the file bitcomet.xml under the installation destination folder and restart BitComet.
Connection
General Settings
- Global Max Download Rate: The range is 1kB/s-unlimited by default.
- Global Max Upload Rate: The range is 10kB/s-unlimited by default.
1.For common users, it's recommend to keep the default setup; ADSL users are recommended to limit upload rate as 75% of the maximum rate.
2.These settings will be void if you enable Scheduler in the following Scheduler tab..
Listen Port
- Listen Port: Query randomly by default.
Bitcomet has advantages over other BT software in "one port for many tasks". We suggest common users keep the setup as default. If you need to set "Port Mapping" on Router, please use the listen port.
- No listening Mode, will greatly slow down your upload/download rate: Not recommended
Port Mapping
- Enable NAT/Firewall configuration in ICS/ICF(XP/Vista Only): Checked by default.
Windows NAT or firewall may cause BitComet fail to connect to tracker or peer. This option may resolve these problems by automatically add positive port for BitComet.
- Enable UPnP port mapping(XP/Vista Only):Checked by default.
Note: In some situations, check this option may cause some problems such as disconnection or crash. So it's not recommeded for checking this option if unnecessary.
- Remove port on NAT/Firewall when exiting: Unchecked by default.
Proxy
Supported Proxy types:Socks4、Socks4a、Socks5、HTTP1.1
For proxy-users, please fill in the forms accoring to Proxy settings.
Directories
- Deafault destination directory: Default Bitcomet installation directory/Download folder
You can set several candidate directories for fast selection in the HTTP/FTP Dialog or BT task dialog.
Task
Download
- Add tags to new task automatically accoring to file type:Checked by default.
Tags is quite useful for task management.
- Allocate disk space before downloading:Checked by default
Allocate disk space before downloading when mark this option or during downloaing prodcess if this option is not marked. But for some low-configuration PC users, this may cause system not responding for some mins. So please check this option at your own situation.
- Add .bc! file extention to unfinished file:Checked by default
The filename extention will be removed automatically when download finished. It's not recommended for common users.
- Optimize download stategy for preview:Checked by default
Check this option, you can watch the downloade video while downloading.(Details)
- Avoid sustem entering suspend/sleeping mode when any task running:Checked by default
- Auto-resume tasks at program startup:Unchecked by default
When Download Finished
- Play sound when task finished:Checked by default
Task schedule
- Max concurrent download tasks numbers:Default as 10.
This setup is for download only. When task number is more than 10, the overtask will be in equal automatically to wait for downloading.(If you start more than 10 tasks manually, this number will be changed automatically)
- Auto start new task if download rate less than:Default as unlimited.
If you set a fixed value for this option, when the download rate is less than the value, a new task in queue will start download. Please note that a suspend task can not restart automatically.
- Example: Auto-download all tasks one after one.
Set 1 as the "Max concurrent download tasks number", and check all unfinished tasks. Then all other tasks except the first one are in queue to wait for download. When the first download finished, the next one will begin automatically and so does the third task when the second one finished. In this way, all task will be auto download one after one.
BT Task
BT Task
- Enable DHT Network:Checked by default.(Details)
- Enable Anti-Leech:Checked by default
Enable Anti-Leech will improve download rate.
- Protocol encryption(avoid BT protocol blocked): Default as autoc-chec.
By protocol encryption, users may break some ISP restrictions and get access to more connections and data.
- Enable torrent share:Checked by default(Details)
- Max number of torrents to display in torrent share list: Deafult as 1000
- Clear other's torrent share list when program exit: Selected by default.
Auto stop task
- Auto stop task when satisfying all the following conditions: Unchecked by default
- Share ratio equal to or more than: Default as 100%-200%;
- seed number equal to or more than: Default as 2-10;
- Time of seeding equal to or more than: Default as 10-200.
If unnecessary, it's recommend to keep the default options.
Upload
- Maximum upload rate per task: Deafult as 3kb-unlimited.
Please note this rate is not the same with the overall upload rate. It's the limit for per task and if the summation rate of all per task is more than the maximum overall upload rate, overall upload rate is the final rate.
- Minimum upload rate per task: Defalt as 1kb-unlimited.
Bicomet gives priority to download by default, but this may cause no bandwidth for uploading. This option is to gaurantee enough bandwidth to finish seeding.
ED Task
For Bitcomet 1.10 and the older version, if you install ED plugin, please make sure the ED plugin has the same version with Bitcomet. Or you will be given warning if the two have different versions. For 1.01 and above, BitComet can be compatible with ED plugin V1.06 and above. But it's recommended to use the latest DE version.
- Start ED plugin: After installation, mark the Checkbox to start ED plugin to accelerate your download rate.
- Listen Port: Default to random port.
Note :The listen port can not be same with the one at "Connection" menu. If you need to set Port mapping on Router, please set the listen port of BitComet and ED plugin independently.
HTTP/FTP
HTTP/FTP
- Start BT download after downloading torrent file: Checked by default
This free you from manually starting BT download after downloading torrent file.
- Auto query file size resume-supported ability of server when add new task: Checked by default
Checking this option, users may know the object file size and whether BitComet has resume-supported ability for the new task you add.
Max retry number when error: 10 by default
When error occurs more than the given number, download task will be discarded.
- Retry interval when error(sec): 5 by default
- Default connection number from original URL for each task: 5 by default
Mirror is not included.
Site Passport
- Remember password for sites: Checked by default
Let BitComet remember you site passport may save you much trouble of account authentication in some BT resource sites.
Long-Time Seeding
- Enable Long-Time Seeding: Checked by default.
- Upload rate limits for Long-Time Seeding: unlimited by default
Recommended. Enable Long-time seeding may greatly improve download rate. But you can set a suitable value for upload rate if it's influenced by long-time seeding.Details
Integration
Windows Integration
- Always become the default torrent client on starup: Checked by default
- Star BitComet when login Windows: Unchecked by default
IE Integration
- Always become the default download tool for IE on startup: Checked by default
Checking this option makes all web browser HTTP/FTP task downloaded by Bitcomet always.
- Install IE Extention for BitComet: recommended
- Capture file download for following file types: Checked by default
Default types:.zip;.rar;.iso;.exe;.asf;.avi;.mp3;.mpg;.rm;.rmvb;.wmv;.wma;.msi
- Add "Download with BitComet" to IE Context Menu: Checked by default
- Disable "Save as" Dialog for torrent file download: Checked by default
Checking this option, .torrent file will be downloaded directly by BitComet instead of asking you to confirm in "Save as" Dialog.
Firefox Integration
- Install Firefox Extentions for BitComet
Add related function in firefox. For example: add command of Use Bitcomet to download in rightclick menu
Clipboard Integration
- Capture URL in clipboard: checked by default
Capture URl in clipboard saves you many operations before HTTP/FTP task Dialog popup.
Apperance
When BitComet Starts
- Default task related info pane: Deafault recommended tasks
- Verify login password at program startup: No password as default
If you share one computer with others, setting a password may better protect your privacy.
Actions
- Minimize to system tray: It's default as Click manin window's close button.
You can set shortcut accoring to your own habits.
- Set boss key: Default ALT+`
Setting boss key may get BitComet window conceal from system tray and taskbar.
Show confirm dialog for following operations
- Delete Task only: Check as default
- Delete task and download files: Check as default
- Exit when task running: Check as deafult
Note: The above Dialogs are to avoid for some unrecoverable action. It's highly recommeded to keep the default options.
Virus Scan
- Scan virus upon task download finish: Uncheck by default
This is out of the safe consideration of you computer. If you have installed Antivirus software on you computer. Click "Auto Detect" and BitComet will detect the local antivirus software and scan your downloaded files.
If BitComet fails to detect the antivirus software on your computer, you can add your own software manually.
- Anti Virus program path: Click "Browse" to select your antivirus software;
- Execute parameter: You can look up the help documentations of the antivirus software for help.
- Extention name of files which will be scanned: Default types: .exe;.com;.dll;.scr;.ocx;zip;.rar;.doc. You can add or remove the file types according to your own need.
- If you do not any anti-virus program at your computers, you can install one at your own need in our recommeded program list.
Service
Software Update
- Check for BitComet updates on starup: Checked by default
Recommended to check this option. There will be a popup dialog to remind you of updated or upgraded BitComet version.
- Check for popular software updates. Checked by default.
Check frequency:Every week by default. There are three options available: every week, every month and every season.
Member
- Login Comet Passport automatically.
If you check this option, Comet Passport will sign in when BitComet login.
Micellaneous
- Check if port is forwarded properly automatically: Checked by default.
There will be connection reminder light at the right corner of the BitComet status bar.
- Send video file snapshot after download finished: Check by default
If this option checked, 10 snapshots will be captured randomly after download finished.
- Query task comet, snapshot information automatically: Check by default
This may help you know about the BT task form other users' comments before the download starts.
- Do not popup message in one week: Unchecked by default
Advanced
- bittorrent.anti_leech_min_byte
Anti-leech: The minimum byte requirement for other users at a given time. Value range: 1-10000(byte)
- bittorrent.anti_leech_min_stable_sec
Anti-Leech: Interval between connection with others and starting volum checking(Sec). Value range:1-10000
- bittorrent.connection.ltseed_protocol_selection
Long-time Seed protocol:0 stands for TCP protocol, 1 stands for UDP protocol and 2 stands for applying TCP and UDP the same time. It's 2 by default.
- bittorrent.enable_p2p cache
Enable p2p cache need ISP support.True by default.
- bittorrent.hash_check_on_finished: False by default
Sometimes, recheck the completion of a task help user know whether the downloaded file can be used or not. But as this will take much space, it's recommended not check this option.
- bittorrent.hash_check_thread_low_priority: true by default
- bittorrent.max_connections_per_task:unlimitied by default(here,0=unlimited)
It's recommended to keep as default for common users.
- bittorrent.tracker_user_agent
Default BitComet+ version.
User-Agent string in HTTP connection.
- network.enable_arp_protection
To avoid ARp cheat attack. True by default.
- network.max_connecting_connections: Unlimited by default(here, 0=unlimited)
Please note: max connecting connections is not equal to max connections(see below).
The whole max connections: unlimited by default(here, 0=unlmited)
It's another way to limit upload and download rate, please set accoring to your own condition.
- network.star_connect_interval_ms: 200ms by default
Generally, Server will limit the interval, so it's no need to setup at client.
- ui.bittorrent.max_display_peers: 100 by default

Disk Cathe
- Minimum disk cache size(MB): 6MB by default
- Maximum disk cache size(MB): 50MB by default
Resonable disk cache setup may lower disk loss. BitComet Intelligent Disk Cache can effectively reduce the amount of fragmentation in file systems. The disk cache is used to keep frequently accessed data in memory to reduce the number of reads and writes to the hard disk. BitComet normally manage the cache automatically, but you may change its behavior by modifying the settings.
- Shrink disk cathe size if free physical memory lower than(MB): 50MB by default
Free physical memory may guarantee users' fluent network access. BitComet will automatically adjust the free physical memory more than the required.
- Cache size for each HTTP connection(kb): 512K by default
- Auto choose cache size in the given range: Checked by default
Auto choose cache may greatly avoid memory occupation and meantime reduce the disk fragmentation amount.
TCP/IP Limit
Windows XP SP2 has Half-Open TCP Connection limitation, which many cause problem fir P2P programs. You may adjust the default setting here if you know exactly what you are doing. Please note that a windows system file(tcpip, sys) need to be modified, which may cause problem for your system. The TCP/IP patch on BitComet may change this limitation. Please go to the download page to install the latest BitComet version.
Scheduler
- Enable scheduler: Unchecked by default
If you check this option, settings in the Connection tab will be void. And the download and upload rate will be based on Scheduler. This is helpful for users whose network are unstable, using the scheduler to adjust the bandwidth depending on the time of days in a week.
Only you enable scheduler, will this option workable. You can schedule download rate by 24/7.
Set you high speed and low speed download and uplownd rate limit respectively.
Web Interface
- Enable Web Interface: Unchecked by default.
- Show prompt window when lauch web interface operation: Checked by default
This option enable local user to know remote operation on local BitComet Client by popup reminder window at the right corner of system.
- Authentication: It's required when enable web interface.
- Open Webpage: http://127.0.0.1: Listen port/ (Default to show local webpage)
The port here is same with the "Listen port" in Connection tab.
