Just an update here. had to do a system restore today and consequently I lost all dwnlds. from GC. So went back to their site and dwnlded 4 torrents that had traffic and much to my surprise my speeds were at 3 and 400 kB/s . Matter of fact 2 are already done!! So I just thought I'd share that with the suspect so you know it"s all good with GC anyway. Feelin real good about it!!!

Seem to have a couple of people posting their probs on my page here. Please post your probs on the forum page. Anyway, just wondering suspect if you know how to set up BC right to work with GC properly? After 2 days of dwnlding, my fastest progress is still only 59%. I can only assume BC isn't set up right because after several speed tests, their all coming in at over 13mb/s. So I'm pretty sure Eastlink isn't throttling my speed. Hope you can help me on this one. Thanks again!!!

Ok. Got it figured out and done. Been dwnlding 7 movies (horror) and each site I went to (which were all dvdrips) were listed as no traffic. Been dwnlding for about 6 hrs. now, not one is up to 10% progress yet and most arn't doing anything. My fastest dwnl. is below 50kB/s. Have a feeling BC is not set up right for GC because I noticed while navigating my way yesterday in GC that there was a page on how to set up uTorrent right on the options page. What are your feelings on this one? Thanks again!!!

OK. Colour me stupid for awhile but I've just spent quite a bit of time trying to navigate my way around GC, going through tuturials, FAQ and anything I could think of to be able to get to the movie sites and dwnl. useing BC and have come up empty handed. To say the least, this lack of PC savvy has left me feeling prety frustrated as I find GC very complicated to use. Anyway, still logged into it if you feel like offering any support on how to use the site right, I'd appreciate it. And if you don't,that's OK, I'll understand. I've already taken up enough of your time with my slow dwnl. speed prob as it is. Like any other beginner, I'll just have to plow on & learn at my own speed. Must say though, up to this point, I've found it much easier useing BC and Cometbird to get to the torrents for my dwnlds.(even if they are slow) Anyway, thanks once again for your time!!!

To be perfectly honest, after signing up with GC, which I thank you again for, I got into reading their rules, FAQ, and their usage agreement, (and here I got really bogged down with info. overload), and after reading all this, I kinda got nervous about useing their site, figureing with my lack of PC savvy, I'm bound to screw up and get banned so I tried to back out of the site gracefully and had one hell of a time trying to log out. Apparently, my ID wasn't recognized, and something or other was trying to block me out. So anyway, I finally managed to log out and haven't been back since. However, I'm trying something a little different now to see if that makes a difference. I'm going to BC options every day or so and changing my random ports. So far, seems to make a difference. AS far as my upls., if you scroll up the page here to where I've put all the info on my options on BC, you'll see that at your advice, I've set my long time seeding at 10 kB/s and haven't changed it since. I usually seed for a week or two on all my dwnlds. Hope this is more helpful in diagnosing my prob. As always, looking forward to your reply and have a large weekend!!!

Does anybody know how I can set up BC to get the best out of it? If you scroll up the page, you can see how I've got it set up on options right now. My ISP is Eastlink and my speedtests (speedtests.net) always come in at over 14kB/s and I have all green lights on everything. My gear's all only just over 3 mths. old and yet even on well seeded torrents, I'm hard pressed to get up to 100 kB/s on even one movie dwnl. which I generaly do no more than 8 at a time. Would appreciate any & all help on getting this set up right so I can stop boring everyone on this problem of mine. I thank you all in advance & have a large day!!!

email address Wed Jul 8, 09 09:09 AM

Sorry about that. I did leave my email on my other post which I see is still there but when I didn't hear back from you, I didn't know what to do about it. Anyway, won't let that happen again.

Paralized here. Just sent my email off to you under your messages but after I sent it, it didn't really show whether it went off. It was my first time doing one of those so let me know if you got it asap and if not, well I'll just send it off here. Thanks again!!!

Guess I had too much to say on the last blog, reply box wouldn't take anymore. Anyway, under connections; global max dwnl., unlimited, upl., 75kB/s, no proxy, task schedule; max concurrent dwnl.tasks-10, auto start new task if dwnl. rate less than; unlimited, share ratio; 200%, seed# equal to or more than; 10, time of seeding equal to or more; 120 min., upl. max; unlimited, min. upl. rate per task; unlimited, Http/Ftp; max retry #,10, retry interval; 5 sec., default connection from original URL for each task-5, long time seeding; 10 kB/s. When you put out your last invites, I applied but didn't make the list so I can SURELY say if you can get me one, I would be much appreciative to you. However, the best I can offer any trackers is long time seeding (I usually seed for a wk. or 2), and with my health probs. I don't expect to get back on the road for another yr. or 2 so until my shoulders meet the scalpal, I can still offer 2 typing fingers. Anyway, nuff said. You have yourself a large day!!!

Sorry I couldn't get back to you right away. Indulge me a bit to explain a few things. I'm a middle age man who has spent the last 30 yrs. of my life beatin up & down the Canadian hwys. as a trucker, putting in 60 & 70 hr. weeks. Doesn't leave much time for a life afterwards. Get home on the weekends & all you want to do is veg and watch the idiot box. To be honest, I'm not one who embraces the speedup of technology so willingly and I always swore when they brought out PCs that I'd never have one in my home. That was until just over a yr. ago, my doctor took me off the road for health reasons. To be blunt, I was going to need surgery on both of my shoulders. So now begins the waiting game. Meanwhile, living in a rural area of NS., not much to do except watch the same old repeats on cable that you get every yr. Because of this, by Apr. of this yr. I go against my grain and get my first desktop for myself, laptop for my fiance & out the door goes cable tv. However, in the interim of waiting for the surgery dates, they discover in Nov./08 that I've got cancer in my right lung. Well, they just cut that out 2 wks. ago, got back home a wk. ago Fri. & as you can imagine you get your good & bad days, yesterday wasn't a good one. (Let me say here, NOT LOOKING for sympathy, can show you in the dictionary where to find that one between shit & syphillis) Anyway, nuff said on that score! Got rid of the accelerator. Thought because it had the name BC. that it had to be a good thing. Don't be fooled, the extent of my savvy on this damn thing is downloading the movies to watch. Only just recently sent off my first email. My ISP is Eastlink. Usually, the torrents I use are the Pirate Bay, Kick Ass Torrent by aXXo. Not really sure where to find any better ones. Don't know anything really about trackers, peers and the like, only about seeders & leechers. Not really sure what you mean by all the settings, I'm assuming you mean the options page of BC. so here goes; under connections, global......

Paralized; I did 4 speedtests useing speedtest.net. My best was: Dwn. 14.08, upl.0.95/pinged at 12ms at 50 mi.MP3 file (5mb) 3 sec. Video clip (35mb) 20 sec. Movie (800mb) 8min. When we blogged before on this matter, I took your advice and changed my global upload rate with BC. to 75 kB/s, long time seeding to 10 kB/s. and haven't changed it since. Last night I downloaded BitComet ultra accelerator from Brothersoft but it doesn't seem to do much of anything except count time. So I don't know, every now and then I get tossed a bone and get 1 or 2 torrents downloading at 1&200kB/s. None of this makes any sence to anyone I ever talk to about this prob. some like to say it's because i've got a Dell with the Vista pkg. It's beyond me. All I know is I feel I'm getting short changed on my first PC!!! Anyway, there it is, I'll leave it with you and as always, look forward to your reply. Thanks again!!!

Fr: paralized; I understand what you mean now so I downloaded open office again. Downloaded in just over 2 minutes at over 1700kB/s. So, I guess my speed is good. Must be the torrents themselves. Thanks for your time on this one!!!

Fr: paralized; I took your advice & made the changes in options & then downloaded from open office. Wasn't sure what I downloaded (something 3.10), and couldn't quite figure out how to use it in conjunction with cometbird to download movies so I uninstalled it. Perhaps you could elaborate on this with some idea on how to apply it for what I want it for. Anyway, after making the changes I did in options (BitComet), my download speed hasn't changed any. I get jealous of my buddy next door. He gets his downloads at about 2 to 300 kB/s. I could be so lucky considering we have the same ISP. Right now I'm downloading 8 movies (4 from Kick Ass Torrent) well seeded, & my fastest is around 40kB/s. Extremely frustrating considering I've got all new gear. Looking forward to your next reply and thanks again!!!

Fr: paralized, thanks for the reply. I took your advice & used speedtest.net. The results were; download-14.92 mb/s, upload-0.97 mb/s, ping-17ms-distance-100mi. Don't know how this measures off to anything but I'm looking forward to your next reply. Thanks again!!!
