I don't think you get what the problem here is. It is not that people were insulted, or that someone retaliated with violence, it is about principle.
If you silence the people, no matter if what they are saying is good or bad, wanted or unwanted, fact or fiction, right or wrong, you are silencing freedoms. When we let our spoken words and perceived images be hushed and swept under the rug, we let our liberties and our sense of individualism slip. Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and they stink. So get used to it, and BTW, if we had taken every offensive piece of literature and illustration out of our newspapers and media, there would be no stories to report and no new information. Everything can be taken offensively, wether that was the initial intention or not, it is how we respond to it that shows our character.
