I agree with you about the religion stuff and just slightly with you about the CGI zombies - but I wasn't disappointed overall.
I'll add those movies you've mentioned to my "Considering to Watch Movies List" - which include White Noise and sequel and 1408. People say that they are really scary, so I'm considering.
what i've heard is that non-smokers near the vicinity of a smoker (inhaling the smoke) are more prone to having a lung disease (cancer etc).. and why is that so?. well.. smokers inhale from the cigarette butt which is filtered - chemicals that enter the body are minimal (or below average).. while the people at close range inhale the toxic fume - sort of - unfiltered..
Or they make a movie of the same title and use every detail in the original source, the novel, as the foundation - or the whole.
A sequel for this I Am Legend movie, is well, as you've said, unattractive,
but I'm inclined with the idea of a prequel, though.
I think what you are trying to say is: "Why is the city's infrastructure that way?" or "Why is it not worse?" If you look at it in a large perspective, the city's infrastructure already looks "good." Certain details, which I consider minor, won't easily change my opinion on the movie - it's good, to say the least. But reactions differ among anyone. The reason for considering the movie not "good" just because of the infrastructure is not good enough. I do believe that there's a reason or reasons why they say the movie ain't good, but you ain't telling me. Right, mate?
