10:1 I believe to be a little steep in most cases, I usually go to 5:1 unless there aren't many seeders, then 10:1 or a full week (which ever happens first).
But I definitely respect your point. I can't stand people who whine that a torrent is not meeting their 500 kb/s expectations. If your getting it for free remember these two statements:
"It is better to give than to recieve" and more to the point "BEGGERS CANNOT BE CHOOSERS!!!"
