A new Pagan's Mind album is always an event to celebrate. I discovered this band a couple of years ago and their debut album "Infinity Divine" made quite an impression in me with its excellent combination of melody, power and musical skills.

Now they´ve released their fourth opus "God's Equation". This album shows all the characteristic features that I love about this band, that consisting in high quality clean vocals by Nils K. Rue (a very close sound-alike is Queensryche's vocalist Geoff Tate) who always keeps it interesting for the listener by using a lot of different ranges of his good voice; audible and groovy bass lines; top notch guitar playing (including jaw-breaking solos); highly technical keyboards that are used for many different roles (background, intros, solos, melodies, etc.); and varied rocking drums keeping it all together.

But don't get me wrong, this album is not just a re-arrangement of the same old things. Evolution is present, as in "God's Equation" the band took an even more progressive approach (just listen to the weird space sounds in "Painted Skies") by adding more time changes, melodies and guitar/keyboard effects to the recipe.

I think that this album will delight progressive and power metal fans alike and it is another gem in the band's discography. All in all, this is melodic music, so it may not appeal to the more extreme metal fans out there. But something is for sure, Pagan's Mind is at the top amongst progressive metal bands and it is a superb point of start for those who are getting familiar with this zone of the metal spectrum.

Let's hope that this guys keep doing this high quality music for years to come for our amusement and astonishment.

Song: "God's Equation"

Flying through space and time

To see what's real and what's fantasy

In silence I'll always remember

To search the open door

And by this conclusion I call you

Escaping through the core

Save us in Heaven's skies

And grant us sign of Life

Stars are rising

Seven senses

With my eyes, do you see?

Racing through endless seas

Reveal the Heavenly Force in you

Building a lifeform with power

The energy in all

Communicate visions as always

I search this open road

I feel like carrying on

And by this conclusion I call you

I call eternally

To the unknown sacrifice

So long, released once again

Incense conclusion

Find the way out from the light

In these dimensions:

Find the way out

Save us in Heaven's skies

And grant us sign of Life

Stars are rising

Outer senses

With my eyes, do you see?

Heavenly fire, Gods of higher

Silent in all their grace

"All lifeforms in this universe are built upon one single, true equation.

A deep, intricate, yet simple equation

That bonds everything together."

In silence I'll always remember

To search the open door

And by this confession I call you

Escaping through the core

In God's true creation,

To save your soul

And by the Equation

The key remains unfold

Save us in Heaven's skies

And grant us sign of Life

Stars are rising

Seven senses

With my eyes, do you see?

Heaven's sensation

God's Equation

Silent in all their grace

Two songs in and I already sense Herbert influence. Heck you could rename The Conception to First Wormrider, from my angle. Voted!
