Band: Necrophagist

Genre: Technical Death Metal

Discography: "Onset of Putrefaction" (1999), "Epitaph" (2004)

What happens when talented musicians mix brutal death metal vocals with neoclassical/technical guitar playing and progressive bass and drums? To find the answer one just needs to listen to the twisted german band Necrophagist. Resting comfortably in the elite of death metal, Necrophagist is one of the more influential bands around when entering the technical field. With only two demos and two studio albums at their behalf, they raised the standard line so high that nothing less than great musicians can say they play technical metal.

What makes Necrophagist´s music so unique is the amount of soloing in display. Definitely a blast for any guitar lover, the unstable and ever-shifting rhythm guitar and the neoclassical elements in the soloing leave the listener with his/her jaw hitting the ground in amazement. Add to that the mighty bass lines, short convulsing bass solos plus inhuman drumming and you have a supernatural encounter with the underworld.

Maybe a band that will not be enjoyed by the mellow tunes lovers and the newbies in metal, the fact is that it does not get any much better than this. In my opinion, Necrophagist is only topped by the unbelievable australian band  Psycroptic in the technical metal arena and a lot of metalheads will disagree with me in this one because often Necrophagist is mentioned as the best technical metal band in existence today. A matter of taste at the end, the fact is putrefaction, gore and sickness will take over your stereo...let the scourge begin!...

  Song: "Stabwound" from "Epitaph"

Invisible blades penetrate

whereas stabwounds are not detectable.

Stabwound

The blade that stabs a back,

unsuspecting, forms the symbolic...

stabwound

There is no shield to protect from

attacks led by the ones one used to trust.

Stabwound

The blade that stabs a back,

unsuspecting, forms the symbolic...

stabwound

Necophagist aren't that technical compared to other bands in this field like Origin for one, Spawn of Possession can be very technical Sleep Terror,Pavor had some mind twisting shit and they are way older than Necrophagist ( Talking about the Furioso album mainly ) There are thousands of underground Death metal bands that are way more technical but get overlooked Anomalous for one and Braindrill and who can forget Meshuggah for timing and nuts.
