Band: Liquid Tension Experiment
Genre: Progressive Instrumental Metal
Discography: "Liquid Tension Experiment", "Liquid Tension Experiment 2"
The US band Dream Theater is formed by great musicians, I have never denied that. It is a band I don´t listen to regularly because of one single big reason: the piece of shit vocalist they have. I can not stand James Labrie and his gayish totally annoying singing (if you can call that singing). Luckyly for me and all the persons who can not stand the guy, three of the current members of Dream Theater (guitar player extraordinaire John Petrucci, gifted drummer Mike Portnoy and keyboard magician Jordan Rudess) formed a side project enforced by bass legend Tony Levin (from King Crimson) named Liquid Tension Experiment. This time, the band is totally instrumental and highly technical, so the annoying vocals are no longer an issue.
Oriented towards experimentation and improvisation, Liquid Tension experiment is the progressive and guitar freaks´ Nirvana. Long songs, great melodies and unending soloing is what this quartet brings to the table. Further description is unnecesary, just pay close attention to the sample song "Acid Rain" and all will be clear. If after listening to the song you don´t end up with your jaw hitting the floor, be sure that you have no taste, no capacity to differentiate between transcendental music and commercial music and probably you don´t have a working brain as well. "Acid Rain" shows one of the most impressive guitar and keyboard playing I have ever heard, definitely beyond normal standars in any genre of music.
