I decided to do one more Christmas related post before moving on to other topics. I though I'd write up a few short recommendations for some holiday movies that you might not immediately think of.
Hogfather
First off is Terry Pratchett's Hogfather. In this fantasy comedy set in an imaginary world an evil plot is afoot to kill the Hogfather (basically Santa Clause). Death (the Grim Reaper) takes it upon himself to save the Hogfather. While Deaths granddaughter Susan tries to stop the killers from finishing their task; Death takes the place of the Hogfather, delivering toys and spreading belief. This two part TV special is a lot of fun and full of laughs, I recommend it for anyone who enjoys fantasy or is looking for an original holiday story.
The Ref
Next is The Ref. In this holiday comedy a jewel thief takes a family hostage after a burglary gone wrong on Christmas Eve. However the couple he has taken hostage can't stop arguing and more family members keep arriving as the night wears on. One humorous situation after another will keep you laughing throughout the movie, plus a few feel good moments that make this movie a holiday classic.
Santa Claus Conquers the Martians
This ridiculously bad old holiday movie can be a lot of fun if you sit back and enjoy the cheesiness. I recommend getting a group of people together to watch this movie and laugh at it together. Another option would be to get a hold of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode containing this movie and enjoy what they have to say about it. While I wouldn't spend money to watch this movie, it is in the public domain so you can legally download it and watch it for free.
A few other holiday movies which I don't plant to write reviews for but you might enjoy anyway are Love Actually, Die Hard, and Scrooged.
Happy Holidays Everyone. I'll probably do an anime or book review next.
