I couldn’t help being touched by Brooke Shields’ eulogy to her friend, Michael Jackson, yesterday. If it was real, it makes me realize just how skewed our vision of the man was, and how little we got to see of the real him. If it was for show, it makes me realize how surprisingly good Shields is as an actress.
We haven’t seen much of Shields on the silver screen lately. Instead she's been a big presence on Broadway and on television. In 2008 she showed up in Clive Barker's Midnight Meat Train and now she’s looking to make another move towards more mainstream features in Furry Vengeance. THR reports that Shields will join family-film darlings Brendan Fraser and Dick Van Dycke along with Samantha Bee in a movie about a real estate agent taking on a gang of raccoons when he decides to develop further into their territory. Sounds a whole lot like Tobey Maguire’s new flick, right?
While I don’t expect much from Shields, it’s a bummer to know that what's bringing her back to mainstream film was a run-of-the-mill family animal caper. When you’re gone for ten years, you’d think that whatever brings you back has to be epic right? I guess not. I hope for more when Dave Chappelle decides to come out of hiding.
