HOLLYWOOD - Rapper Kanye West fought back tears as he performed his first show since the death of his mother a week ago in Paris on Saturday night.
Despite pulling out of the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show earlier this week, West decided the show had to go on in Europe.
Fans cheered him on as he appeared to break down onstage at Le Zenith just before he was about to perform "Hey Mama," a song he wrote for his mom, Donda.
As the looped intro just played and played, two associates dashed to the rapper's aid.
A concertgoer says, "A backup singer and the DJ came over to him and basically held him up. He was visibly very upset."
As WENN went to press, Kanye's show in Brussels, Belgium, on Sunday night was scheduled to go on as planned, but his Amsterdam concert scheduled for Monday night has been officially cancelled, so that West can fly to Oklahoma City for his mother's funeral on Tuesday.
Donda West, who died as the result of possible complications from a cosmetic surgical procedure, was remembered by friends and family at a memorial service in Chicago on Friday.
Chicago State University, where Donda West was a faculty member for 24 years, staged the event, which featured musical performances and spoken-word tributes to the late professor.
