Could the WGA strike be over? That’s what one blogger named Nikki Finke claims. If you don’t know Finke, she’s one of those self-important, self-appointed Hollywood insiders who spends as much of her time bragging about how connected she is as she does actually talking about anything Hollywood related. But just because she’s a self-congratulatory California windbag doesn’t make her any less right.
This weekend she dropped a post on her site DeadlineHollywoodDaily where she claims that talks between the writers and producers have gone so well that they actually have a deal in place. She claims the deal is basically already done, which would mean the strike will end any minute.
That story was posted by her on Sunday. It’s now nearly Tuesday and she’s since posted several other stories about how right she is and how no one is giving her any credit. What’s more interesting is her most recent post, which consists entirely of the headline: “URGENT! My Report On Today's Talks” and the body of which consists entirely of “Coming…” Wait a minute, is this the talks you told us were basically over on Sunday? Why would there be talks to report on today, since they’re supposed to have a done deal?
I’m not sure I’m buying any of it. Meanwhile, the latest from Variety is that bargaining resumed on Monday and is still ongoing. Finke says it’s all but over, but it doesn’t sound over to me.
