Dark Swarm Rounds Up Sci-Fi Franchise Actors The Earth is under attack and only cult science fiction actors can save us! No, it’s not a spin-off from Bruce Campbell’s satire, My Name is Bruce. Instead it’s casting information for an independent CG-monster movie titled Dark Swarm, which is really embracing sci-fi culture with the casting of actors from several different franchises.

The movie, directed by Tim Pyle (whose previous CG credits include Jimmy Neutron and Children of Dune), is about a swarm of aliens that attack our planet, consuming most life on the planet and leaving only a small band of survivors as a small resistance. While it may sound campy, the script has previously been nominated for several festival awards (Best Screenplay at the International Horror & Sci-Fi Film Festival in Phoenix; and Best Feature Screenplay at the Terror Film Festival in Philadelphia).

IESB reports that headlining the cast is Stargate SG-1’s Christopher Judge, who will play a father desperate to save his daughter and the other survivors from the onslaught. Judge played Teal’c on Stargate for ten years.

As a potential love interest comes Erica Cerra, from Sci-Fi’s Eureka. On the show she plays Deputy Jo, the sidekick and sometimes foil to the lead character. In Dark Swarm she’ll play a forest ranger who adds her skills to help the survivors, while also trying to survive a tangled love triangle.

Finally, the underutilized Ed Wasser joins the cast. Wasser is best known for his work on Babylon 5 as the despicable Mr. Morden, a character who knew more about the mysterious dark antagonists of the series than anyone else. His role in Dark Swarm: a mysterious stranger who knows more about the alien swarm than he lets on. Hmmm… sounds, familiar. Luckily, he plays that role well.

Dark Swarm begins production this summer for a planned 2009 release.
