I was going to start this article with some stupid joke about Michael Keaton’s Multiplicity and how Duplicity would feature Billy Bob Thornton clones who would go out and make zany comedies about asshole characters. Then I read the plot description for the movie that just had Thornton added to the cast. Who needs jokes – this sounds pretty darn cool.
Duplicity, set to be directed by Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton) for Universal, stars Julia Roberts and Clive Owen as corporate spies working for pharmaceutical companies vying for the top spot in the market. Variety reports that Billy Bob Thornton and Tom Wilkinson have been added to the movie’s cast, playing the CEOs of the competing companies.
Corporate espionage has never sounded so appealing as having Roberts and Owen playing spies working for Thornton and Wilkinson. This movie also reunites Wilkinson with Tony Gilroy, who did amazing things for the actor in Michael Clayton. In fact, with a cast that cool, who needs clones… although I still think a movie featuring an army of Thorntons could also be a cool idea. Maybe someone will decide Multiplicity needs a ten-years-later sequel?
