If you saw our post earlier today with the trailer for The Foot Fist Way, you may already be wondering, “Who is this writer-director Jody Hill, and is this person a woman?” Well, the answer to the second part is no, and Seth Rogen may be helping you figure out the first part of that question. Sundance-debuting Hill may very well be on his way to becoming a household name, now that Seth Rogen has agreed to star in his next project, Observe and Report.
Variety tells us that Rogen, who is doing any damn thing he pleases these days, will play an inept mall cop who squares off in a turf war against the actual authorities. Think he'll just keep his costume and mustache from Superbad? Hill will write and direct, as he did The Foot Fist Way. You may recognize Hill from a small cameo in Superbad, though based on the imdb credit I can't figure out which character he played.
Judd Apatow is not involved as a producer, which might mean all bets are off in terms of Seth Rogen's talent. But probably not. The report is that the trailer for The Foot Fist Way is hilarious, which means Jody Hill is a talented guy all his own. And say what you will about Rogen, but I trust his charm even when Judd Apatow isn't writing the words he says. If Foot Fist is a hit then there will probably be a lot of people talking about Hill, and hey, Rogen will be able to say he knew him when. Damn those Hollywood types-- always getting on the bandwagon before the rest of us even get a chance.
