One X-Man Says The Series Is Over Here's a little insight into the world of Cinema Blend writers-- we get our story ideas from Josh, who posts links to articles with summaries, like “Forest Whitaker sticks up for Wild Things” or “Three new cast members in Tim Allen movie.” So when I picked up on this story at JoBlo, it was under Josh's title “X-Men franchise dead.” “Whoah!” I thought. “I wonder how they got the studio or Brett Ratner or Bryan Singer or whoever to confirm that they will never make another X-Men movie!”

Well, turns out I got a little over-excited. The person saying there would never be another X-Men was one of the minor stars of the series, Shaun Ashmore (a.k.a. Iceman). And he wasn't exactly definitive. “"I would love to do another film, but I think they're doing these spin-offs and origin stories, so I can't see in the near future there being an "X-Men 4" but I have no idea to tell you the truth.”

So basically, this guy has about as much information as I do. They're working on Wolverine and they've greenlit Magneto, so the studios appear to be trying to make money off individual X-Men instead of making full-blown ensemble movies. Makes sense to me. Ashmore might be anxious because his character doesn't seem to be headed for his own spin-off just yet, but hey, if Wolverine is a hit, you never know.

JoBlo makes its own slight exaggeration at the beginning of the article, in regards to the trilogy's inglorious end: “I''m not saying that X-Men: The Last Stand was as bad as the Holocaust but it has its similarities; we all know it happened, but none of us like to acknowledge or think about it.” Harsh words, but fair enough. Since Brett Ratner got his hands on the series no one seems to want to think too hard about it, and it'll probably take a lot of fanboy convincing that the whole thing is worth revisiting. In the meantime, though, we'll have Wolverine and Magneto, and Shaun Ashmore might just have to hold his horses.
