Last year Stan Lee entered into an agreement with Walt Disney Productions, giving the studio a first-look option on projects that come from the mind of the guy who created Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, and Stripperella. Now three projects have come forward from that agreement, with all three considered to be origin pictures for potential franchises – exactly what the House of Mouse was hoping for.
The Hollywood Reporter brought the projects to light, the most prominent of the three already attracting the attention of P.S. I Love You writer/director Richard LaGravenese. Nick Rachet could potentially be written and directed by LaGravenese, and would provide a modern look at the classic private detective.
The other two projects include an action-adventure flick, titled Blaze, and a more classic Lee idea of Tigress, about a woman with tiger-like instincts.
Lee has high hopes for his creations, joking with the press that he, “hope[s] Disney will have room at the theme park once they become the tentpole franchises that we envision them to be.” As an annual traveler to the parks, I can only assure Lee that there’s plenty of room for merchandising and exploitation of solid characters (or even not so solid characters if they have a big enough fanbase).
