Even though Will Smith has his own, fairly famous, actually talented son to act onscreen with him (as he did in The Pursuit of Happyness), the Fresh Prince has outsourced the role of his younger self to another celebrity spawn. And, even better, it’s a Scientologist’s spawn! Connor Cruise, the 13-year-old son of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, will play the younger Smith in Seven Pounds, due to come out this winter.
The Hollywood Reporter says that the role will be pretty small, and you’ll see him mostly in photographs. So, basically, we wouldn’t be hearing about the part at all if it weren’t being played by Cruise’s son, and if it weren’t so weird that Smith chose someone else’s kid instead of his own for the role.
If you’re confused, Connor was adopted by Cruise and Kidman, so yes, he does bear a decent physical resemblance to Smith. It’s nice to even see Connor get attention, since he and his sister, Isabella, tend to be ignored amid the Suri insanity and the mounting fever over Nicole’s pregnancy. There were two kids there already, guys! Give them some love too! I guess Will Smith has been the one to step up to the plate.
