A Good Old-Fashioned Orgy is one of the weirder projects in the works right now. With Jason Sudeikis and Will Forte starring in it, it’s got the SNL star quotient it needs to get people to actually pay attention to it. But it’s about a topic—uh, an actual orgy—that seems a little impossible to advertise, much less get anyone to take seriously (Eyes Wide Shut anyone?). Then again, it’s a comedy, so maybe that’s all part of the master plan.
Either way, the recent casting of mostly unknown actress Lindsay Sloane doesn’t change much. The Hollywood Reporter says Sloane will play a born-again Christian who is trying to go to her Bible study group, but somehow winds up at the orgy instead. You know, the kind of understandable mistake we all make. She’s been seen so far this year in the instantly forgotten romantic comedy Over Her Dead Body, but her career stretches back as far as a six-episode stint on The Wonder Years back in 1993.
With Leslie Bibb and Michelle Borth being the only other women in the cast so far, this seems to be another one of those comedies about doofy men and the hot women who inexplicably hang out with them. But as a 30 Rock fan, I would do pretty much anything for Floyd, a.k.a. Jason Sudeikis, so I guess I see some of the appeal. Anyway, it’s going to be hard to judge this movie until we see some trailers, and figure out just what the hell they’re aiming for here. Someone track down Lindsay Sloane and get her to give us some answers.
