If you’ve been reading the site the past few days then you’ve seen the news that producers have been considering bringing Harrison Ford back to the Jack Ryan role. We know the studio was pushing to go younger with the role, but considering the opening take for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, it’s a pretty safe bet that Paramount’s interest in Ford’s return is probably rising. The good news is that Ford seems equally interested.
Ford told The Sun that there are some characters he has no interest in revisiting, such as Han Solo or Witness’s John Book. Jack Ryan isn’t one of them though. "The Ryan films, the Tom Clancy films, were, I thought, worth re-exploring again, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the book on which the last one was based,” said Ford. "I thought he did great and it was a fine movie but it wasn’t for me. But again, that’s a character that I think you could revisit acknowledging the passage of time and his increasing age. It wasn’t age dependent, that character, and his experiences were chockablock full of recipes for good engaging movies so that’s a character I wouldn’t mind revisiting."
The notion of Jack Ryan’s return to the big screen with Ford in the lead is looking more and more promising with every day. Of course, that probably means it’ll wind up falling apart (after all, it did take almost twenty years to get a new Indy flick). With two of the three main parties expressing interest, however, it seems likely this could happen.
