The movie Are We There Yet? got crucified by critics, earning a putrid 12% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But since there is no accounting for taste, families flocked to see the tripe on the big-screen and made it a bona fide $100 million hit. Congratulations, there will now be a second lap to the dreaded road trip.
According to Variety, Ice Cube has started shooting the sequel to the comedy, with the fitting title Are We Done Yet? The answer, clearly, is a loud, screaming “NO” from the backseat. Not even close. The film will be directed by Steve Carr and released by Columbia Pictures.
Are We Done Yet? picks up where the last story left off. Nick (Ice Cube) and Suzanne (Noa Long) are married and living in a mellow house on a suburban block. When the new home starts becoming a costly burden, they find themselves negotiating with a strange contractor (John C. McGinley of “Scrubs”), and getting in way over their heads. Trite family comedy follows.
The movie hits theaters on April 6, 2007.
