HOLLYWOOD - The Commissioner of Police in the Bahamas has launched a formal investigation against Former Minister of Immigration Shane Gibson.
Gibson resigned on Sunday, after photos were published showing him and former Playboy Playmate
Anna Nicole Smith hugging in bed.
According to entertainment Web site TMZ.com, the Commissioner's office has received "an official complaint" and is now conducting a formal investigation.
Gibson approved Smith's application for permanent residency in the Bahamas last year, and has come under fire for giving the former reality TV show star special treatment.
Police would not say who or what agency filed the complaint against Gibson, but are legally required to investigate. Sources would not say if the investigation involves possible criminal misconduct.
Gibson offered a televised apology for his unprofessional behavior, but insisted the star never received special treatment, saying, "I unconditionally deny that I ever abused my ministerial office by granting
Anna Nicole Smith any permit which she was undeserving of or for which she was not qualified under the laws of the Bahamas."
