We first reported that Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later would get a sequel back in 2004 here. After a long time hanging around, it looks like the project may finally be moving under the auspices of Fox's new youth oriented Fox Atomic label. Youth oriented usually means really bad, PG-13 horror movies so don't expect much from the sequel, 28 Weeks Later.
Variety is reporting that they've started casting the pic, and have chosen Jeremy Renner as the lead in their pseudo-zombie film. Renner will play Sgt. Doyle, a member of a Special Forces team sent in six months after the previous film to restore order. They're working to repopulate London when a carrier of the virus unwittingly reignites the infection. The UK just can't get a break.
Surprisingly, Danny Boyle remains involved in the franchise. When I heard Fox Atomic was taking over I assumed he'd be heading for the hills. Instead, he's staying on as a producer while Juan Carlos Fresnadillo directs. Wish Fresnadillo well, with a name like that he probably had a miserable childhood and could use a little success.
So who the heck is Jeremy Renner? You might have seen him in a small part for Lord of Dogtown. Most recently he appeared in North Country to sexually harass Charlize Theron.
