Oh Woody Allen, why do you do this to me, all I ever did was love you. After breaking a horrible eight year bad streak with the stunning Match Point, you led me to believe that London and Scarlet Johansson had revitalized you, only to crush such notions with a this year's horrifying Scoop, a film so bad that I considered gouging out my eyes, until I realized that I would still be able to hear.
Anyway hope springs eternal as does the merciless factory-like pace of Woody Allen films. So it's with bruised optimism that I look forward to Woody Allen's next, which was announced today. According to Coming Soon the untitled film is set in Spain and maybe the new location will give him a jump like London did, even if it was only heartbreakingly temporary.
The actual details of the plot are meager to the point of a Zen Koan. The film takes place in Barcelona, with English speaking actors who play foreigners in the city. Allen is writing the script as he finishes editing the last film in his London trilogy, which stars Colin Farrell and Ewan Mc Gregor. The new as yet untitled Spanish film will be a drama, and center around romantic entanglements. Really crazy rumors say that this will be shot on "film" and projected onto a screen at a rate of 24 times a second causing the pictures to "move".
That last part may turn out to be pure conjecture.
