This week while out promoting his upcoming movie The Rocker, Office Star Rainn Wilson gave us an update on his much talked about ninja movie Bonzai Shadowhands. He also dropped the bomb that he’s in his 40s. Dwight is in his 40s? Why does that seem so… wrong?
For those of you who haven’t heard of this Bonzai Shadowhands thing, it’s a project Rainn’s working on with Juno director Jason Reitman. When it was first announced, Rainn described it as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon meets Midnight Cowboy. But all you really need to know is that Rainn Wilson plays a ninja. How awesome is that?
Better still, it looks like the project is really starting to get rolling. Rainn told us, “ Bonzai Shadowhands is almost done. Jason Reitman read a draft and we’ve been working on a second draft. We’ve got something we’ll be shooting in 2009.” Just think: Some time in 2009 you’ll see a poster featuring Dwight Schrute in a ninja outfit.
Rainn seems extremely positive about his relationship with Reitman. He told us, “Comedy doesn’t come in a vacuum. It comes out of collaboration. If you’re making a comedic movie you need a great script and a great director and a great actor and you need to find that common ground. I’m always looking for people that want to collaborate. I was fortunate to find Jason and get going with some projects with him early on in his career before Juno.”
