Marvel fans have it pretty good this year. Iron Man has proven to be one of the better super-hero flicks to hit screens from the comic book company and The Incredible Hulk made up for some of the shortcomings of Ang Lee’s previous attempt. Now we have to hope Marvel can keep up the momentum, especially since they have quite a few years ahead mapped out pretty thoroughly.
We know Marvel Studios is planning on culminating their current plans in an Avengers picture that will unite some of the major characters that have made their way to the screen, but we didn’t have a clear roster of who would be in the Avengers movie until now. After all, the slate of the Avengers has changed over the years. Even last year the team included Spider-Man and Wolverine, among others.
So who would make their way into an Avengers movie? Iron Man director Jon Favreau talked with USA Today and explained who will be a part of the movie if things proceed the way they are now. “The [characters] Marvel is talking about now are Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Ant-Man and Iron Man. I would love to see that." Hmmm… you mean all of the characters Marvel Studios has planned to make independent movies featuring? Yeah, I guess we all could have guessed that – and pretty much have been.
Favreau leaves Nick Fury, the first in-movie hint we get of an Avengers team up, off his roster, which I think is just an oversight. After all, why get someone as notable as Samuel L. Jackson into the part for a tiny, post-credit sequence in one movie? In fact, the USA Today article continues on to list Fury even though Favreau doesn’t mention him.
So there you go – everyone’s instincts on that Avengers movie are dead on. Here’s hoping Marvel proves successful with their upcoming Captain America, Thor, and Ant-Man movies (and that Iron Man sequel) so we actually see an Avengers movie come to fruition.
