It looks like Marvel may have finally gotten its head out of its ass and decided to re-hire Jon Favreau for Iron Man 2. A few weeks ago Favs revealed that the studio hadn’t even talked to him about the sequel, and rumors started swirling that Marvel might simply be too cheap to hire him back.
Well now Nikke Finke claims the fences have been mended, and it’s all but official that Favreau and Marvel have reached a deal which will have him helming Iron Man 2. She also thinks Favreau is a liar and an asshole, and continues to claim there never was any problem with getting him back and insists on spreading the notion that when he said there was, he was simply riling people up because he’s just that big of a jerk. Maybe she’s right, but it sounds a little like somebody has some studio contacts who need their egos stroked.
Hopefully Finke is at least right about Favs getting rehired. The mere fact that a deal wasn’t already done sort of lends credence to his claims that Marvel was dragging its feet. They should have had a done deal the day after the movie opened, and what’s more paid Jon whatever the hell he wanted. Didn’t Marvel’s execs see the movie? Guys, it was really really damn good… and it’s making you filthy rich. Hopefully we’ll get an official announcement soon to clear everything up. Marvel needs Jon back, and if Finke is right they now have him. Better late than never.
