HOLLYWOOD - Production on Russell Crowe's upcoming film Nottingham has been postponed because of looming threats of more industry strikes.

The Ridley Scott film, which will feature actor Crowe playing a "sympathetic" Sheriff of Nottingham in a new take on the famous Robin Hood tale, has been put on hiatus because of several factors, including the current unrest with actors' union the Screen Actors Guild (SAG).

Movie bosses at Universal Pictures cite the "cloud of the SAG strike" as one of the factors, as well as location and problems with the film's screenplay.

In a statement, Universal says, "Universal could have moved forward with one of these challenges, but the confluence of the three caused the studio to reconsider and take the time for all conditions to be optimal."

The movie, which was due to start shooting next month, is now slated for a November 2009 release.
