Good news from the Memphis Regional Medical Center: Morgan Freeman broke his arm and his shoulder in a car accident last night, but according to his business partner, he's going to be fine. “Nothing life-threatening. Nothing permanent,” Bill Luckett told Mississippi's Clarion Ledger. “He’s in good spirits, but he’s in some pain.”
Freeman elected to have surgery after he was airlifted to the article, but according to the article, he was upbeat even when he was being extracted from the car. “They had to use the jaws of life to extract him from the vehicle,” said the editor of Charleston, Miss.'s Sun Sentinel Clay McFerrin. “He was lucid, conscious. He was talking, joking with some of the rescue workers at one point.”
There's no update on Freeman's companion who was in the accident, Demaris Meyer. But for now we can just be glad that Freeman made it out-- it's not every day a 71-year-old survives a serious car accident with a handful of broken bones. I guess when you turn in a performance as God, you earn a few favors with the man himself.
