Sigourney Weaver Confirmed For Avatar Rumors about Sigourney Weaver’s involvement in James Cameron’s next film Avatar have been floating around for awhile, but it looks like they’ve finally been confirmed. Harry over at AICN got a Valentines Day French kiss from Hollywood in the form of a phone call from James Cameron.

Apparently Cameron called to pimp his upcoming movie to the internet’s most loved/hated film critic, and in the process ticked off who will be in his cast. Weaver’s wasn’t the only new name mentioned in an official capacity. Cameron also confirmed the rumor we reported on here, which said that Joel Moore would be in the movie. You may remember it as the news story the rest of the film journalist community decided to pretend didn’t exist in order to make friends with Moore’s publicist. Originally Moore was thought to be a contender for the lead, but since Sam Worthington has it Cameron has apparently found some other place for him.

Also newly confirmed to be in the cast are Peter Mensah, Joel David Moore, Laz Alonso and C.C.H. Pounder. Wes Studi was also mentioned, but then we told you about him two days ago.

What we don’t know is what Weaver or any of these other newly mentioned actors will be doing in the film. Sigourney has a long history with Cameron, she has to be some sort of bad ass doesn’t she? Peter Mensah often ends up playing some sort of ass-kicking grunt soldier. Joel Moore is usually a bit of a nerd or a wiener. Bill Paxton type? We’ll see. They’ve already started shooting a few scenes, so expect information to flow pretty steadily while JC has his actors in front of his lens.
