As we noted here, Keanu Reeves and Forest Whitaker are set to star in the movie previously known as The Night Watchman. In order to avoid confusion with the upcoming movie Watchmen, the name of the Reeves/Whitaker flick has been changed to Night Watch. But that’s not the only news about this cop drama, MTV Movies Blog says that Naomie Harris has joined the cast.
Harris is well known to movie goers as Tia Dalma, the only voodoo witch under the age of 60 in movie history. The Dalma character shot a little life into the otherwise sluggish Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and hopes to do the same with this summer’s At World’s End. She’s also been seen in Miami Vice and 28 Days Later.
Night Watch, directed by Training Day writer David Ayers tells the story of an alcoholic cop (Reeves) who is framed by a close friend (Whitaker). Harris was at least honest in saying that she doesn’t really know what she’ll be doing in the movie. “I’ve been offered the part, but I’ve [only] read the script once; I don’t really know very much about my character yet.” This is Hollywood, however, and there are rules to follow, so Harris praises a movie she knows nothing about. ”It’s a really great movie, though, and I’m really excited to be part of it,” she says. We’re excited that you’re excited Naomie, and hopefully you’ll read the script again before filming starts.
