Former next big thing Matthew Vaughn has found a new project. Flashback a few years and the excitement over his first movie Layer Cake had landed him the high profile directing gig on X-Men 3. Months later, after a lot of confusion Vaughn was dropped from the project and replaced by the unholy horror of Brett Ratner. Now Vaughn has Stardust coming out this summer and it looks like he’s set to direct Thor once that’s out and over with.
The story was plucked from the LA Times by Moviehole. They say the script is written by Mark Protosevich, which must mean it’s the same project that Blade Trinity helmer David Goyer was at one time attached to direct.
Thor would be the latest in Hollywood’s long string of minor superhero comic adaptations. Unlike most heroes, Thor isn’t an alien or a mutant, or a guy who fell into a nuclear reactor. In the comics, he’s the son of a Norse god thrust into the body of a mortal as punishment for being an arrogant prick. For superpowers he gets a Superman-like mixed bag of super stamina, strength, reflexes, and invulnerability. He also has a hammer. A big hammer which is sometimes complimented by a sort of goofy winged helmet.
