Goyer Goes After Invisible People Again I’m starting to lose faith in David Goyer. While I still idolize his contributions to the early Blade movies and Batman Begins, his stock lost some value with Blade: Trinity and the recent teen angst flick The Invisible just wasn’t very good. I said in my review of The Invisible that Goyer needed to direct movies he had written to help create a more complete vision. I just didn’t realize he’d jump back and take a second stab at the same subject matter though.

According to Variety, Goyer has signed up with Universal Pictures to write and direct The Invisible Man. No, this isn’t a follow up to The Invisible (thankfully), but it is a sequel. Apparently Goyer is going to create a sequel to H.G. Wells original novel. The movie will follow a British nephew of the original Invisible Man who discovers his uncle’s formula. He then is recruited by British Intelligence during World War II.

I honestly don’t know how I feel about this. Invisible Man stories have been hugely popular over time, from the classic Invisible Man to the more recent Hollow Man and the appearance of a man with invisibility powers on “Heroes.” Traditionally the story is a look at the effects of solitude on a person, and the eventual lack of sanity that accompanies that solitude. This sounds more like an action-adventure piece about an invisible soldier/spy. At least Goyer is writing and directing this movie, giving him quite a bit of control.
